A few months ago, was it over a year ago, somebody invited me to join twitter. And I joined. That was that for a long time.
Then a few months ago, some of our blog friends joined twitter and started adding me. Then I had a little more incentive to actually log in to my account, rather than have a dormant account, which Β I never used. That point in time, I ended up adding quite a few interesting people.
Funnily, despite following really interesting tweeters, I somehow do not seem have the time or inclination for tweeting. I find that I need a lot more time to be able to tweet, read through people I follow, and to respond to tweets. On the blog world, I feel I can read, comment and respond at my own pace. On twitter, on the other hand, by the time, I read a tweet and want to reply to it, the tweet is forgotten and 20 other tweets must have come from that person. So in that sense, I find it far more difficult to use twitter. Β Again, even on social networking platforms, I rarely post any status message, so I guess that is another mind-block that I have, when it comes to short posts.
But yes, it is a lot of fun, when I log in once in a while, and find an interesting hashtag going on, I do have a lot of fun reading them, but as I said, very rarely do I log in, in time to read most of it.
There is one thing though. I do think that twitter does give a feeling of familiarity especially when it comes to celebrities. I hear friends talking about what Shahid Kapoor tweeted or what Shahrukh Khan said, and it almost feels as if people have started feeling far more involved, if I may call it so, albeit ‘virtually’. People can actually talk to celebrities on twitter, which I think is an incentive for some people.
Right now, my twitter usage is almost nil, but I do wish I had that kind of bandwidth and that kind of wit to be on twitter. What about you guys? Are you active on twitter and if not, why?
I have the same problem with twitter..mainly because my mobile does not have web on it…
My mobile does have web on it, but I find that if I start checking twitter on it – it gets too distracting. I am not trying to make a conscious effort of getting on the internet only when I am in front of the laptop. I used to spend too much time on my phone, at a point.
Also somehow I feel, that following all these celebrities on twitter is actually glorified stalking π
I agree. But a lot of my friends do, and they are quite happy about it too.
I don’t like twitter… It never gives time for a lazy fellow like me..
Same here π Too lazy me too π
Everything happens too fast as you have said… we can’t even respond to the tweets send to us leisurely.. I like blogging much.. we do everything in our own sweet time π π
Same here. I think I enjoy blogging far more.
I am not interested in celebrities… so there is no reason for me to jump to twitter π π
Yes, same here too π I am on twitter, but I rarely log into it π¦
After a lon time 2nd π π
Congratulations!
che che kanagu, you’re happy at being 2nd?? C’mon give all the swarams, masoods and hitchys of the world some run for their positions π
I am totally with you on this one. I tried it, but its just not my thing! So I pretty much never ever log in now. π
I started using twitter around the time it first became famous. In the initial one year my account was in an absolute dormant state, but gradually as I tried to learn what exactly tweeting held in store there has never been any second thoughts.
I never access web from my mobile. I tweet, but not too much, just a few replies to any tweets mentioning me, a quick browse through the trends and few funny quotes of my own. I o not follow any celebrities and most of the people I follow are the blog-buddies or the like.
With world cup around hash-tags and the cute flags and logos attached are a great charm to keep me tweeting.
You’ll seldom read what I am doing, but you’ll often a scoop of what’s on my mind on my twitter page.
I like tweeting and love doing it whenever I get sometime π
I read tweets but I rarely tweet ’cause, like you, I don’t have the wit to do so…The other thing is that Twitter is too active for me…I log on once or twice a day and that’s just not enough…
me too a-non-tweeting-person π
And I’m pretty cool about it …though I have an account created at Twtitter but I honestly don’t remember when was the last time I logged in there π
So,I’ve a company π
oh i am always on twitter because of the fact that i have it enabled on my cellphone, on days i dont even have time to login into reader i am still online on twitter though i understand what u mean as the phone is not working and hence i have no time to tweet but its a great medium

Ditto!
Cheers,
Quirky Indian
Exactly same like u – I cant be online all the time on all days, to follow twittter. I prefer my blogs, which I read at my own pace and comfort timing.
Certainly, my twitter a/c is dummy. π
Well, I too have not been able to fall in love with Twitter!! I only use it to post the link of my new blog post! besides that like you I too find it quite to difficult to keep pace with the speed of twitter!!!
He he same here too .. I use it only to post the updates on the blog π And that too is in sync with the FB updates .. I dnt even login there π
Ditto ditto ditto π π
U hv written exactly what I hv in mind but cud hv never put in words in a better way π I do update status on FB frequently, but somehow Twitter does nt work for me π
I use twitter all the time, I think of it as a way to get to know a little more about blogging friends and to share views on news that one doesn’t have the time or enough info to blog about.
I agree about not being able to track all the tweets, generally I respond to whatever is being tweeted when I log in and never thought of checking those that were tweeted even a minute ago – unless I am looking for some particular tweet.
Smitha have you downloaded Tweet Deck? It has three columns and space for one more, so you can see DM(Direct Messages), general tweets from those you follow and a third one for those tweets where you have been mentioned (i.e. included).
Twitter is great for keeping track of what’s happening around the world… and you get first hand news, like the fire in Bangalore, and tremors in Chennai (epicenter Nicobar) during the world cup recently. Do you know during the Mumbai Terror Attacks tweets were giving as much (perhaps better) information from the houses in that neighbourhood… being able to use the mobile for tweeting makes it easier. This is something I haven’t managed to do though…
“Twitter is great for keeping track of whatβs happening around the worldβ¦ and you get first hand news,” Ditto, IHM
Interesting what IHM has to say about Twitter. I have always been inclined to use Twitter for this very reason.
But, me being the lazy me and the fact that I do not like being stuck to the net for long, I have always avoided Twitter.
oh you too on twitteR? i dont see your handle on your blog here π
Twitter-usage has been pretty erratic for me. There are times when I use it so much that I find myself addicted to it. And then out of the blue it takes a back seat and I neglect it completely.
But I still love it for the sheer fact that it keeps me updated about whats happening around the world with just one click. I find it much more convenient than searching the web for different sites.
Smiths, I so remembered Poohi and ur post on ‘Unharnessed thinking’ when I wrote this one π Remember, she ws trying to show me her drawing or something like that over phone one day π
So sorry, I missed that post π¦ I have so many unread posts π¦
Arre come on .. I know its diff. to read daily π
But this one, I ws thinking of Poohi so much that I wanted u to c it π
Did u see that crown she hs made π π I just cud nt guess it ws one π
yeh understanding mere liye bhi show kar Swar !! When you know it’s difficult to read daily..
Some people are so biased π¦
LOL, Nu!
That’s the thing, they draw with their own mind’s eye! They see exactly what they have been planning. Sometimes, things which look like scribblings to me, have some real meaning to her..
I was talking about this to her teacher yesterday and it is so impressive you know. I think I should do a post on it.
Smitha, I’m on Twitter, but I manage perhaps a couple of tweets a day. I’ve never really liked to chat on Twitter, perhaps I don’t do it properly! π
Blogging is more to my liking. And since it’s difficult to elaborate on a statement you’ve just made on Twitter, I think there is more possibility of misinterpretation there.
On the other hand, sometimes it’s fun to read interesting conversations that are going on!
I’m totally un-twittery π I think one needs a lot of presence of mind to Tweet sensibly, and I completely lack it π so I just stay away from it. I used to enjoy Soli’s intelligent tweets though.
Im not active on twitter. Thats because I dont have an account !!! Seriously, I dont think I would have the enough bandwidth of time to spend on twitter or even facebook. I might join facebook, but no twitter as of now. Im happy with all the blogs ! π π
I think i have a witter account,but never used it..Will try it someday…
I love blogging,it keeps people really close…
Yeah, I remember being addicted to twitter for a week or so and then, my wife created a FB account for me. That was the end of twitter coz. the status message on FB serves the same purpose, no?
Wit and me ???
you gotta be kidding me… I guess its not my cup of tea… I tried my hand… did a lil madness…
but then… its about wit not madness ! π
I agree, – it is about wit. And I think you are quite witty too!
I too have started tweeting but it is mostly to read others gnanful tweets than to tweet myself…But would love to follow u and our list here…
Twitter is as good to me as facebook status messages… so nope.. I havent ventured into twitter yet. I see no need to… π simple
Dear u dont need to be witty to be on twitter π U just need to say whats on ur mind, post good stuff, give opinions and respond to people’s tweets in 140 characters π Its fun once u get the hang of it.
