Poohi Speaks

I decided to dedicate a page to Poohi’s antics (Thanks Vimmuuu for suggesting it ). Just so that I can jot them down as and when she says them, instead of making them into posts πŸ™‚

17/08/2009

Poohi re-discovered her old high chair that we had hidden away and desperately wants to sit on it again. Never mind that she is too big for it. Her argument goes,’ I’m not a big girl anymore, I’m a small girl now, I neeeeed to sit on the high chair’!

18/08/2009

Today, I kicked a door real hard – clumsy me. Daughter comes running and says, ‘You alright, Amma?’ . I said, ‘Yes, I am’. So she turns her attention to the poor door.

‘Door, You alright?’

‘No?’

‘Oh dear! Amma, don’t hurt door again, OK?’

19/08/2009

My husband has a habit of keeping away things Β – sambhal ke, and we never to see them again. We had been searching for a CD , high and low and had assumed it to be lost. Yesterday, Poohi found the CD inside the arm flap of his lazy boy chair. And I was quite annoyed that he kept it there – of all the places !

So Poohi, hands on her hips, expression stern, says, ‘Daddy, why did you do that?’

Daddy, ‘ Sorry, darling’

Poohi, with that same expression, ‘ Don’t do that again, OK?’

25/08/2009

This happened some time back. One a sunny and warm day, we had been waiting to bill our purchases at a store and there was this lady ahead of us. She had been wearing a tube top (with bare shoulders) and Poohi giggles and tells me, ‘Oh dear, Aunty does not have a shirt’!

I seriously did not know where to hide myself 😦

22/09/2009

Today was Poohi’s first day in nursery at school. It is also the first time that she is attending nursery for the full day. She has been waiting for this since ages. She knew that she would start school in September and has been ever since waiting for September to come πŸ™‚

Two weeks back, we had a home visit from her Key workers at the nursery and when they gave us this date, she was not happy at all. She turned to me and said, ‘But Amma, I will go to school in September – not 22nd!

Today, she was in very high spirits the whole morning. On our way to school, it was very windy and I showed her clouds moving across the sky – very fast. And she pipes up with, ‘ Oh I know! The Clouds are going to my school too!.

The nursery was so lovely – I wanted to join them and play! They had all kinds of toys around.. and her Key worker is such a sweet lady.. In no time, I was told to go back home,Β  ‘this is my school, you need to go back, Amma’. So off I came, waiting for the time to pick her up.. And a long wait it is too…

22/09/2009

Nursery Day Update. Turns out she had a wonderful day after all. They have huge outdoor play areas – which I could see that she enjoyed completely:) She even ate her 2 sandwiches and promptly fell asleep on the way back πŸ™‚ And wants to go back tomorrow – I guess I can’t ask for more…

23/09/2009

Today, Poohi had just 3 hours of nursery – Wednesdays are 3 hour sessions. She was so disappointed, that she said, ‘Can we go to another nursery please?’ Seriously, people will think that I torture her at home. She just does not want to come home!

27/09/2009

I have my very own moral police these days. I was dressing up in a sari to step out for Durga Puja, when daughter sees me, and screams, all scandalised at my bare mid-rif, ‘You can’t go out like that! You need a bigger shirt!’

14/11/2009

The other day we were reading a book on monkeys when I asked her, just to pull her leg, ‘Poohi, do you have a tail like the monkeys?’.

She gave me an exasperated look and said,’ No Amme, I only have a bum. You have a bum, Daddy has a bum. No tails , ok?’ She must think of me as the most ignorant person in the world!

14/11/2009

There are triplets in her class. Three identical girls! So one day I was just mentioning how wonderful it must be to have three little girls, when daughter turns at me and says,’No Amma, you have one little girl – me. Not three! OK? I am your little girl – just one.’ Just in case I had any doubts πŸ™‚

04/12/2009

Poohi has a best friend M who is french. One day, she comes and tells me, ‘Amma, M is french’. So I decided to use the opportunity to tell her about her own ethnicity. So I said, Do you know what you are? You are Indian’. She gave me look and said patiently,’ No Amma, I am three!’

13/01/2010

Poohi was very upset that snow has started melting – no more snowmem to be made. So she requested the ‘sky’, ‘Please Sky, can we have more snow please’, and looks like the sky heard – it is snowing now πŸ™‚ Have never seen a happier young lady πŸ™‚

25/01/2010

Poohi had the most wonderful time in Disneyland. All she wants is to go back. We made the unfortunate mistake of discussing about going to Disneyland Paris in summer, only to decide against it. She however registered it and here is the conversation that happened a few days later.

Poohi : Daddy, Are we going to Disneyland again after 3 months.

Daddy : No, we are not.

Poohi : But I heard you! You said, after three months!

Daddy: But we don’t have the money for it.

Poohi: Yes, we have! Amma has lots of coins in her purse!

Daddy: But that is not enough to go to Disneyland

Poohi: I know! Lets go to the shops and get more money!

11/02/2010

Evolution, according to Poohi –Β  girls grow up to be princesses and boys grow up to be dragons.

08/03/2010

Poohi is really hung up on the idea of getting a ‘moving baby’. She is very clear about what she want – she does not want a toy baby – but a real, ‘moving’ baby. These days I have been trying to sort out clothes and have been separating the clothes which she has out- grown, to either give for charity or to be thrown away. She refuses to let me throw anything away, she wants to keep them for ‘her baby’.Β  Yesterday, she was at our neighbors place and when I went to pick her up, my neighbour, asks me, very delicately ifΒ  I was expecting, thanks to my daughter who apparently has been talking about her ‘baby’!

27/09/2010

Anybody listening to Poohi would hold me guilty of Child Labour. Yesterday, she was bemoaning her fate. Apparently ‘I have no time to play, I have to cook, clean, wach, tidy up! I am so busy!’ Wonder if I have been lamenting a bit too much in front of her 😦

15/10/2010

Two most used words in Poohi’s vocabulary – ‘Amme’ and ‘Why’.

15/10/2010

Poohi threw up all her breakfast (on my light coloured carpet, but that is another story), so I mentioned it to her teacher – just so that she could keep an eye on her. And before you guys think of what a horrible mum I am,Β  let me tell you , that Poohi insisted that she is perfectly alright and refused to consider staying at home.Well, her teacher had other ideas. Apparently when a child has been ill, she needs to stay at home for atleast the next 24 hours. So I had to bring her back.Β  A pretty scene, it wasn’t. She burst into tears, right in front of school. Other mums were trying to convince their children to go to school, and I had a child who was sobbing into my shoulder because she had to go home with me!

16/11/2010

We were watching the news on the Royal Wedding, and Poohi wanted to know who they were. So I told her that he was a Prince, and they were getting married, so she will probably be a princess. Wrong thing to say to her. ‘But I want to marry him, because I want to be a princess’! Whatever made me tell her that 😦 And how on earth do I detox from this princess business?

4.11.2011

Poohi had a ‘big’ question for me yesterday.’I know we came from monkeys, but where did monkeys come from?’ Why, why did I think explaining evolution was a good idea?

08.12.2011
This happened when we were in India. Poohi had learnt the concept of two-dimensional and three dimensional shapes. They had been taught that 2D shapes are ‘flat’, and 3D shapes are ‘fat’. This is the way she applied her knowledge. The Indian Style toliets are 2D toilets(they were flat on the ground, apparently), while the Western style toilets were 3D toilets πŸ™‚

12/12/2011

Celebrations = Payasam According to Poohi.Β She told me the other day, that I need to make something special for Christmas. Something special, apparently means Payasam.

Last weekend was our Anniversary. After the whole day was over( we did a lot of fun stuff), she comes up and says, but we didn’t really celebrate!

And why is that? Because we didn’t make payasam!

  1. Let her sit on it with half a butt! hey you have kept the high chair for no. 2? so sweet. and update this page I am a Poohi fan.

No no – I did not keep it for No 2! No plans what so ever for No 2 πŸ™‚ When we shifted from London, this was supposed to be sent to the charity, instead husband grabbed it without thinking and put it in the van. A friend of ours was supposed to take it -so it was stored away for him. Last weekend, we had friends over and their daughter uses the high chair – so we brought it out. Ever since, madam, has spent all her waking hours in that high chair! I have never met a child who likes being strapped in a chair!

    • Btw before anyone claims, let me ask the inevitable question “Am I the first on Poohi Kutty’s page?”

IHM, The credit of this idea goes to Vimmuuu – he had suggested this in one of his comments πŸ™‚ But I have been rather tardy here – no time these days 😦

  11. Jesus… !!!! why did I not see this page earlier… !!! and why wouldnt you make me read it earlier.. huh ??

She doing dadagiri with her Dad !!!!!! she is just awesome !!!!!!

Oh yes – she thinks he is hers to bully πŸ™‚

  12. Tell Poohi chakkara that this auntie has some garden snails for her whenever she plans to visit Peanut.

Told her and she is all excited πŸ™‚ She and my neighbour’s daughter love snails so much that they are constantly hunting down snails πŸ™‚

Smi: just now our gardener is spraying Snail killer on all plants…probably the last for this season and I remembered how much Poohi loves snails. Another blogger friend’s son too love snails and also had a pet one which they had to give away recently because they multiply fast.

Oh dear! You guys are killing all of Poohi’s friends πŸ™‚ Here they will all disappear in winters..

  13. ‘You can’t go out like that! You need a bigger shirt!’
    Poohiammammey,that was classic..ROFL

πŸ˜† She seriously thinks she can dictate terms to me πŸ™‚

  14. “I have my very own moral police these days. I was dressing up in a sari to step out for Durga Puja, when daughter sees me, and screams, all scandalised at my bare mid-rif, β€˜You can’t go out like that! You need a bigger shirt!’”

These little girls are just jealous of their hot mammas. πŸ˜€

πŸ˜† That is it πŸ™‚ They must be jealous πŸ™‚

  15. @“I have my very own moral police these days.”

πŸ˜† !!! I once took my daughter to the beauty parlour with me, when we were walking back she told me not to worry, she was watching that nobody “saw anything” during waxing and facial etc !!

    • Saman is very protective πŸ™‚ He wants to keep his hot mama away from dangerous eyes πŸ™‚

I hardly wear salwar suits 😦 Husband says I look like a behenji πŸ˜‰ So all she sees me in is jeans or skirts and an occasional kurti over jeans – so a sari totally scandalized her πŸ™‚ Bare midriff – shiva shiva! I hope she stays like this till she is in her twenties;)

  16. Awwww….the little darling! This is a brilliant journal. Well done, Smiths. A real treasure of memories, right here! Poohi is one brilliant little kid, I must say. And why do you torture her at home? Poor kid!

  17. Poohikutty, tell your ma to share some more of your grandma-talks with us!she seems to have forgotten there are some of us waiting eagerly to get some updates about you!

  18. Sigh! So bad of me 😦 Hv nt visited this page for a long time nw!

The Clouds are going to my school too! – So sweet πŸ™‚ Its so nice to see her having taken to nursery so well Smithu πŸ™‚ She is a darling for sure πŸ™‚

She loves the nursery so much, that I worry that I must be ill-treating her at home πŸ™‚

    ROFL πŸ˜† Smithu πŸ˜›
people will think that I torture her at home.
What do u do Smithu ha ha ha πŸ˜‰ Kids baap re! ROFL @ bare midriff πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ I wanna c that pic πŸ˜‰

Oh what? me in a sari? I look so round that I am ashamed of putting it up 😦

  19. Hee she gets hilarious with every new entry  so she taught you that Bum is the only thing she inherited from both your families πŸ™„

Yeah right πŸ™‚ Tharavad sothu as we say πŸ™‚

I think she wanted to be very clear about having more sisters in case you know you are interested πŸ˜† Like Saman always stresses that he won’t mind having a BIG SISTER and anything other than a girl with 4 inches more height than him will not be accepted at any cost 😯 😑

LOL! ‘he won’t mind having a BIG SISTER and anything other than a girl with 4 inches more height than him will not be accepted at any cost’ – Saman, as I said, has all his concepts in the right place πŸ™‚

  20. “No Amma, you have one little girl – me. Not three! OK? ” LOL Poohikutty. What is this Poohi’s amma, are you trying to give her some kind of a sibling-hint πŸ˜›

No such hope, Deeps πŸ™‚ I find the idea of identical twins/triplets really cute πŸ™‚ When I was pregnant I used to hope that it would be twins πŸ™‚

  21. Ahh the bum one is the coolest … lol u ignorant mum πŸ˜›

I loved the triplet thingy too πŸ˜‰

Swaram – the kind of gyan that she gives me sometimes!

  22. That’s why they say you have to ask the gods with a pure heart πŸ˜› Poohi enjoying the snow now? Btw what did you pray for that was promptly rejected by the gods??

Yeah yeah πŸ™‚ God does not listen to sensible requests πŸ˜‰ Anyways, the snow made it easier for commute today – yesterday – it was dangerous to put one step out πŸ™‚

  23. Ahem…was N shocked to know about your secret swiss bank account of a purse?? lolz so now poohi is gonna take you on a shopping trip to buy money…sigh!! I wish i could come along

Kids are such a gift….I love when they talk like this and hope poohi, namnu and saman doesn’t grow up too fast and talk like adults πŸ˜₯

  24. “Poohi: Yes, we have! Amma has lots of coins in her purse!” LOL,Poohikutty..what observation!

And she gets very upset if I use the precious coins to buy something πŸ™‚

  25. Smitha… take Poohi along with you to shops and buy money soon… πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    Sure πŸ™‚

you can’t fool her and now she has seen that you have lot of coins in purse and its time to fly to Disneyland…

Yeah – coins to go to Disneyland πŸ™‚

This is the same way I ask my father while asking for some toy.. when he says that he don’t have money, I will ask about the money in his pocket πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ but that happened at my age of 9 or 10….

Poohi is really smart at this age.. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think kids these days are just more aware πŸ™‚

  26. /*girls grow up to be princesses and boys grow up to be dragons.*/

    grrrrrrrrr… 😐 😐

yes , Kanagu – you are going to grow up to be a dragon πŸ˜‰

  27. Lolz poohi got it just right…boys do grow up into dragons and I can vouch for that. I have 26 fire breathing dragons running for my tail πŸ˜†

26 of them??? Now that is what is called being in demand πŸ˜‰

  28. Awww, adorable post… had me laughing, grinning and sighing…. πŸ˜€

1st time here and love eet… will be sure to visit more often!!

    Welcome here, Aarti πŸ™‚

  29. What have you done to the little girl?? why is this place not getting updated 😈 😑

The little girl is very busy acting grown up these days πŸ™‚ Will update πŸ™‚

    • Swar what’s this?? I thought you would give me the good news when I am back from my hiatus!! che che…couples these days I tell you…in my times we had babies before we ourselves could get potty trained

If you want to hear ‘good news’ – hop on to Smita’s page πŸ™‚

  30. Lol girls=Princess and boys=dragons, what made her say this smitha, maybe her class boys make much noise in the class.Varu says all boys are bad, they don’t sit at one place in the school or in the bus.

    I have no idea πŸ™‚

Because you are putting on weight,ur neighbour felt your are expecting.

I am sure my weight must have added to the confusion πŸ˜‰

  31. Lolz so is Poohi asking when her tummy is going to grow big? Godd what’s with our kids and getting babies? Saman wants 6 kids when he grow up and all in pairs 😯

I have no idea! I think it has to do with the fact that almost all her friends have siblings 😦

    • Vims just thank your stars that this is Poohi’s 4 year old PG rated page or I would have said something really ………………….. for this comment of yours. Maybe I should put a reply for this on your A rated blog?? πŸ™„

  32. /*Poohi is really hung up on the idea of getting a β€˜moving baby’*/

    LOL… πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

Yeah – she is crazy, she loves babies and wants one of her own πŸ™‚

  33. /*Other mums were trying to convince their children to go to school, and I had a child who was sobbing into my shoulder because she had to go home with me*/

ROFL πŸ˜† Here the people in my office are still kids Smitha.. everybody were happy and letting out joy when office was closed 2 hours earlier than usual for Ayodhya verdict.. πŸ™‚

LOL! I can so imagine their excitement πŸ™‚

they should take some lessons from Poohi πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Or they should have offices that are as much fun as Poohi’s school πŸ™‚

  34. Ayyo Smithu, I really want to know what u do with our angelkutty πŸ˜‰ Child labour and now she hates to come bk home πŸ˜› πŸ˜›
Hw I wish my mgr can tell me that πŸ˜› Go home and take rest – aaah! Just the thought makes me so happy!

    • Seriously πŸ™‚ people must be thinking that I really ill-treat her at home πŸ™‚ These days she has a term break, and is driving me nuts asking every day if it is Monday yet πŸ™‚

  35. What its over .. not fair .. no updates for more than 15 days πŸ˜₯ .. this was more itneresting than any damn thing the entire day … I’m more hurt than the poor door now πŸ˜₯

    • Sigh! You have no idea how tiresome it is 😦 Drives me nuts πŸ™‚ This is the only ‘ambition’ of hers which has been going strong – for almost a year now 😦

  36. /*But I want to marry him, because I want to be a princess*/

LOL!!! πŸ˜† Smitha… One day Poohi going to murder you for sure for putting this up.. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  37. Poohi has company, Smits. The other day R asked Namnam what she wanted to be when she grew up..pat came the reply ‘princess’ and right after followed,’I will NOT kiss a frog but a prince’ 😯

  38. I love love love the header Smits! Awww, is Kunju checking if every item on the tree is well in place? Did she decorate it? Looks beautiful!
