I am at my wit’s end. Poohi’s school has a dress up day on Friday and the theme is ‘Heroes and Villains from books’.
Try as I might, I can’t think of any! Something is surely wrong with me..The only one I can think of is Matilda. Could you guys, please, give me some ideas? Pretty Please π
Gruffalo may be?- My 4 year old adores him..
alternatively, some thing like ‘Monster’ from Jack and the Bean Stalk?
All the good heroes seem to be boys !! How annoying is that π¦ And she wants to dress up as a girl! She has a witch costume – I might just get her to agree to dress a Witch – from Roald Dahl’s witches – as a last resort..Lets see..
Matilda. She would be perfect with her love for books π
That is one option – infact that is all I can think about π
Yes yes that’s lovely!:)
Sarah Crewe from ‘A Little Princess’
Little Red Riding Hood
Gretel from Hansel and Gretel
Heidi
Are you open for villains too? What about animals? Lemme think some more π
I ws gng to say Gretel too π
Great!!! I am open to villains too:)
Since she has a witch costume, any witch would be ok. Apart from that –
1) Medusa(can’t relate her to any book though – challenging make up)
2) white witch (the lion, the witch and the wardrobe one – could make for an interesting make up)
3) Matilda’s head mistress. Oh I love that book too much π
Thank you, Thank you, CR! Those are such wonderful ideas!!! Let me see which one she agrees to π
Matilda was what came to me first too! And then the other usual ones.
Is she supposed to go say something on stage?
Make her Irene Adler – she is smart Poohikutty after all π
No no – it is just a dress up day – for world book day. We also donate 1 pound to charity..
From books? What about a character from Famous Five or Secret Seven? Or from any other Enid Blyton books?
The problem with these characters are that it is difficult to figure out how to interpret their look – if you get what I mean π
You could also try Hermoine from Harry Potter π again, this is open to interpretation!
I did a search and here are some links suggesting various costumes for girls…hope this will help π
http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/world_book_day_costumes_for_kids.htm
this link is of the discussion on a forum about book day costume and there are some ideas for girls as well (referred as DD – dearest/darling daughter)
sorry, second link is this (forgot to add)

Thank you AT!! These are just brilliant!!
I think I am inching towards Alice in Wonderland – She is easy to do as well, and easily identifiable, no?
yes Alice in wonderland would be easily identifiable…
please do post a pic of Poohi in costume (whatever you decide) π
good luck
Fabulous!! lots of options available, right? π
Loads of ideas now π Now I’m going to have a tough time selecting one π
Anne with an ‘e’ π
That is an idea too! I am having so much just thinking of these costumes π
Little Dot in polka !!!!!! she would loook seriously pretty in it π
I hope the mommy knows this comic character !
This mommy is actually clueless π¦
Comics book allowed ??? You know who I am about to name, dont you ? π
Yes I do π You will have a ball when your kid goes to school – I can see that π
Lai so many how about GABBAR SINGH .. or go dressed as BIKRAM that will frighten the living daylights out of every one he he he he π
why dont you jsut visit a loval costume shop, go there and check out the costumes I am sure you will get tones of ideas. that will be easiest .
Asking here is far more effective than any costume shop! See how many ideas I have got already π
Bellatrix Lestrange? Or that girl Violet in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. You could do the puffed-up version when she gets filled with blueberry juice.
I would love to try Violet – but I think it would be too much work – I have just one day to get it all done π¦ Plus they have to be in the costume for the whole day – so it has to be something in which they can play and run and everything, you know..
So, how did the dress up day go? What did Poohi wear? π
where are the pics?! π
how are you Smi?! {{{hugs}}}
Hey Pix!!! You are back! The dressing up day is Friday – so we are yet to finalize 0 but I am leaning towards Alice in Wonderland π
looks like you have got wonderful ideas already.. pls treat us soon with poohi’s picture in her costume π
Will do π
The first character that came to my mind was Red Riding Hood. π
Some other suggestions:
A witch from Roald Dahl’s The Witches
Willie Wonka (I’m not sure how you will dress her up, though, but it would be fun!)
The little princess from the book by the same name
Cinderella
And of course, Matilda is a wonderful idea! π
All the very best! π
I was thinking of Willy Wonka too! I have a hat which I could have modified – but now I am leaning towards Alice – Lets see π
What did you guys finally decide upon?
Haa how about the evil queen with a basket of apples from Snow White?? that way you can make sure Poohi is eating apples to keep her healthy no? π
It will be Alice – I am yet to talk to her and convince her π
Evil queen! That is a great idea! Let me see if I can put together something ‘queen like’ π

Errrr….Elizabeth Allen from Naughtiest Girl..then you wouldnt have to do anything…just dress her up in her normal clothes *yaa yaa I am a lazy mom*
That would have been the easiest π But so difficult to identify, no?
Oh wow! I am loving all the suggestions here! π
Please please please do put up a pic of Poohi in her costume. Would love to see. π
Will try π
Sounds like you have some great ideas but here’s my thought: Hermione Granger (or you could settle for Harry Potter).
Daughter has not read Harry Potter yet – so though she knows Harry Potter – she is clueless about Hermione π¦
Joker from bat man
