.. has not ended yet, but it sure does throw up some delicious results.
On our weekly shopping trips, if husband happens to be with me, he gets pulled magically to the bakery section loaded with delicious, chewy American cookies. While I lust after the delicious cream cakes and cheesecakes, husband can’t have enough of cookies. Β He loves them. Β And I would love nothing more than be able to bake them at home. And you guys know how much I love to bake π
So I have been searching, and searching, but have never been able to replicate them to make them as delicious and chewy as the ones in the store. After much searching and researching, I decided to try this recipe. Well, they did not turn out as chewy as I would have liked, but I cannot complain because both husband and daughter loved it. And I have enough to share, so they go with us to the dance class this evening π See, my clever ways of ensuring that they don’t end up on my hips π
The cookie dough – I added white and dark chocolate chips – instead of just dark chocolate chips as mentioned in the recipe. I thought it looks prettier that way.
And here they are ready to go into the oven
And finally out of the oven! Don’t they look lovely?
So who’s joining me for tea?
The recipe – is from Allrecipes.com
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
- Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
- In a medium bowl, cream together the melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar until well blended. Beat in the vanilla, egg, and egg yolk until light and creamy. Mix in the sifted ingredients until just blended. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand using a wooden spoon. Drop cookie dough 1/4 cup at a time onto the prepared cookie sheets. Cookies should be about 3 inches apart.
- Bake for 15 to 17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly toasted. Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
The only thing I did differently was to add both white and dark chocolate chips.

Now that is a good idea π Or may be you should wait until that UK bloggers meet and I could bring along some π
Now that sounds good. Can we make it a cake please? π
Sure we can π I just need a reason to bake, and people to eat it up – to stop me from gobbling it all up π
yes yes yes NOw i hope that happens sooon .. and i have enough notice cause i want to go on a DIET and be extremely hungry to eat all of them when it happens π he he hehe

You are a beautiful soul Smitha! Very beautiful! I am touched! π
Whatever did I do to evoke such emotions π beautiful soul? π
don’t tell me she sent you a boxful of those cookies? π‘ or did you comment at the wrong blog thinking you are writing a comment for me? π
U’re very lucky I don’t like chewy stuff, Smitha, so no competition to gobble up all those cookies π They do look yummy, ofcourse!!!!!
LOL! Some of them turned out crisp and bisuity – because I left them in the oven for too long. Luckily, Poohi does not discriminate π She eats them either way π
Sigh… those cookies look so delicious! π

Dammit why do u have to live so far away in the UK? π¦ π¦
I like picking and eating those chocolate chips from the cookies and handing out the rest to my boy π³
You know sometimes I think of you as those Enid Blyton types Dame kinda mom who bakes all the time π
You eat all the chips and give only the rest to S? Poor darling! I will send him a giant box of chocolate chips to make up for all the cookies without chips he has had to eat π
You know when I was little, I used to think that it would cool to be a mom like that π But I don’t bake much these days. Can’t afford al those calories π
Btw I think we both should order this machine
droool! I need a batter fermenting machine, something that can maintain the perfect temperature for fermentation.
awesome..I made a batch sometime back and despite wanting crisp cookies,i ended up with chewy ones.Temp was 180 in the recipe i followed. Will definitely try these out.Thanks.
hey, i made them just now. the crust was nice and done but they were slightly undone from the bottom so i hv put them back upside down this time.. maybe the heat/temp in oven wasn’t right.. what do u think?
I think your oven might have needed a little longer cooking or a higher temp, I guess. Ovens are so different. I had the reverse problem with my old oven, I had to reduce the temp. Do let me know what happened when you put them up side down. Next time just try increasing the time by 5 mins and check?
Am new to baking but will def give this one a try!
Welcome here Ram pyaari. Hope you like it too.
