..is what happens when I have nothing much to say..
Why, you ask? Well, we have been outdoors almost all the time, since the last few days. We went on drives, waded through a little stream, enjoyed ice-creams, and generally basked in the warmth. Β Warm weather was finally here, but then like all good things, did not last long. It is back to business as usual today, cold, wet and windy.
The two of us testing waters π
Chicken pox seems to be doing the rounds here, and one of Poohi’s friends has got it. So Poohi was really upset, apparently she wants to ‘eat chicken pox too, coz I love chicken too’!
The other day, we had been watching NDTV’s We the People, on the same gotra controversy. Just wanted to add my share. I cannot comprehend why it becomes necessary to force people to live by other people’s standards. Why can’t it be left to individuals to decide what makes sense for them? And does it make any sense at all, in this time an age? Why is it considered being ‘city-bred’ and ‘urban’ to think like this? Β Does it mean that people living in villages have no right to think for themselves? If some people believe that same-gotra marriages are not correct, let them not get married to someone of the same gotra/village or whatever works for them. But forcing entire communities to follow rules like this, is a little difficult to stomach. More so, is the support that they seem to be getting from various sections of society. Β Bones has unearthed Naveen Jindal’s interview on this. He actually seems to be support of the Khaps when it comes to same gotra marriages.
Today apparently Arya Samaj has come out with something bizarre. ‘After khaps, it is the Arya Samaj that has shocked couples in Haryana. A section of the sect has decided to ban marriages without consent of parents and villagers.’ .
Apparently in addition to dis-allowing same gotra marriages, they will also refuse to solemnize weddings without consent of parents and villagers! They also go on to say that ‘ Love marriages are harmful as in such weddings youngsters just see the beauty and not the nature and qualities which should be the basis of marriages,” said Baldev.’ Β And I wonder if women play any role at all, in any of these decision making.
It is funny, isn’t it that, Arya Samaj came into being as a reform movement within Hinduism, is today talking about going the reverse way? Β What is your take on this? It just makes me sad that we Indians are supposed to be tolerant people, and yet, we have so many such diktats cropping in various parts of the country. Are we increasingly becoming more intolerant or is it just that now with the media, reporting all this, it is just looking that way?
*avial – a mixed vegetable dish
Firstttt!!!!!
Meeting nw . wil be bk to read π
Position is mineeeeee π π
Yummy avail indeed!
Sigh! Hw I wish I cud njoy the wet and windy weather π¦ π¦ We r burning here …enuf heat to make dosas anywhere and everywhere!
Wet and windy weather – come here π It is constantly wet and windy π
These kinda gotra things irk me no end. My own Mama and Mami are from the same gotra and they hv a wonderful life @ hands. I give their example to anybody who talks abt all such gotra business! When Mama had a small problem in his business and had to experience losses, all that ppl cud get ws that he had married someone from the same gotra :grrrrr πΏ
People!!!!! As if everybody who married out of the gotra has perfect lives!!!! If that were the case, there would be no unhappiness in the world!!! It is so ridiculous.. I mean, I can understand that some people believe in all this, but why force it on others? Why can’t others live their life the way the want to?
And u r so right abt the Arya Samaj ..they wanna make some reverse reforms probably! Time we whack all these ppl!
Smiths, what I am fuming @ today is the Rathore verdict .. saw that? Just 6 mths-1.5 yrs jail term for molesting a girl π¦ π¦
I know, Swaram!!! The poor girl ws tortured enough to give up her life and this monster gets 18 months????? It is so so so so irritating!!!
I know π¦
I cant even tell u how upset I was when I saw that verdict disgusting I tell u
Ya my uncle replied saying in that case, he hd a lot of profits also bcoz of the same girl π
Thatz damn true .. as though these ppl go and help everybody in need to comment on their lives!!!!
I know!!! So irritating na? Even if they do help, does it give them the right to rule somebody else’s life?
Definitely not .. I meant they dnt do what is required and when, but r never short of words!
Oh, That is the general characteristic of people who like to meddle in other people’s lives!
“cold, wet and windy”…ahh for a day like that over here. Its too hot!
π Here, it is cold wet and windy with a few sunny days sprinkled in between π
3rd!!! π π
LOL, Kanagu!
Wow! same pinch Smitha….for the weather at my end too is cold, wet and windy π
Thank you CB, for giving me company, everybody else seems to be yearning for wet weather π
You girls seem to be having a fun time splashing in water this summer π
That’s a beautiful picture π
We did have a great time last weekend π
Take care dear with the infections around in the fluctuating weather at your end π π
The fluctuating weather does seem to be impacting us – loads of kids seem to be unwell after the sudden changes.
I love to have that windy climate here π π the pic is so nice Smitha π π Seems like Poohi was so happy play in the water π
Here we celebrate at the sight of sun π We had a lovely time that day π
For the other issue… people love to boss around, don;t they… they want somebody to hear what they say and want atleast few to follow it…
somebody must put banner saying ‘Live and Let Live’ everywhere….
Absolutely! We certainly need a banner saying Live and Let live!
Hey I can still be thankful for the weather here these days…..it’s warm and relatively speaking for this place, its hot today…..going to be 32C ………..loving it!
Being outside is such a novelty for us π
I know! Same here being outside is a huge novelty π So it is double the disappointment, when it goes cold again π¦
Everyone wants to decide how other will live…..”to each his own” is a forgotten phrase now!
So true! To each his own, is something that people actually seem to have forgotten
never mind the gotra’s sigh… we will never learn or give up ! sigh π
I love that picture… Touchwood !! so much life in that !!!! and so much excitement even though Poohi’s face not visible… I can so Imagine her face !!!! π π π
I would seriously love England’s summers !!!! here its horrible !!!!! π¦
Hitchy – England’s summers are ‘ blink and you miss it ‘ types π¦ It is back to cold windy and wet weather π¦ We are walking about lugging our winter coats π¦
Looks like England and Japan are like brothers and sisters when it comes to weather π
Here also, its the same one day shiny, and the next day rainy and cold (although sans the winter coats) π
I am so glad I have company π We keep praying for good weather, hoping against hope π
I like avial and this avial post! π
Wish we have that Cold, wet, windy here…badly need respite from the hot and humid weather! π¦
π The grass is always greener on the other side π
We were supposed to be moving ahead and not backwards… I believe, instead of the Khap Panchayats banning the same gotra marriages, these Khap Panchayats should be banned!!
I agree! It is so sad that a bunch of people have the right to decide what works and what does not for whole communities???
Haha UK summer… it disappears before u know it..
In fact I heard this year it is particularly terrible with summer barely being visible at all…
I know π¦ Now it looks like our quota for this year is over π
LOL @ Poohi’s innocence…she’s an absolute chakkara π π
Can’t tell you how tough it was to explain to her what chicken pox was π
As for all the gotra marriage crap, wish ppl wud just live and let live. the world wud b a much better place to live in then… π
I know!
Let me laugh my heart out at Poohi’s I love Chicken pox dish one π
Goodness what’s wrong with Arya Samajh? if it were not for them i would still be a hunting spinster
It’s crazy the way everyone meddles into other people’s business π‘
Can’t tell you the trouble I had explaining to her that Chicken pox is not food π
Some Arya samaj guy has gone and stated that they will not support ‘love marriages’ and you need to go there with your parents and villagers, apparently π
LOL She is damn sweet and smart π
Yummy, I love avial π Such posts are almost always interesting π So keep writing more this way π
π My crazy posts π
As for chicken pox, isn’t it better for kids to have it at this young age and get over with it? My sis and I did, so am quite happy about it π
It certainly is – They have chicken pox parties here, don’t they π I am hoping that Poohi gets it too, and get over with it.
And the Arya Samaj thing… gosh.. ridiculous. As a society, I think we are just becoming more insane!!
I know!
This photo of ‘Maa beti’ is unique! Looks so good. Both of you look so friendly. I love this photo.
Thank you Sandhya π
I will come back and read the gothra matter later and comment!
Waiting to hear from you !
Poohi is really funny!
Didn’t you know that the Arya Samaj is reforming back to casteist Hinduism? It is a reform movement and as such, needs to reform constantly…
It does need to reform constantly, and that does not seem to be happening!
Your daughter’s logic seems faultless!
“It just makes me sad that we Indians are supposed to be tolerant people..”
Ha ha ha ha ha….. π
π QI, You are right, I must have been on something to have written that π
Cheers,
The Quirky Indian
Firstly I loved the title of your post π ..Do you want me to take it up as a tag and bring out an Erisseri post by any chance π
Yes, please π An Erisseri post please π That would be fun π
So you and Kunju were having some outdoor masti, huh??And here I was wondering why you were so quiet :)..that little steam looks so inviting,Smits! Kunju wants to eat chicken pox..LOL..sweetie-pie..I’m going to really really squeeze her when I meet her..do warn her before-hand tto?? π
It was lovely, Deeps! It was gorgeous while it lasted π
She was really disappointed, as she thought it was some sort of food π It reminded me of my cousin – he used to go around ordering chikungunya – because he was sure it was food π
First same-gotra marriages and now arya samaj also..this is ridiculous! Whoever said we are a progressive nation..by the looks of it we are anything but that π¦
I know! We are anything but progressive!
Deeps, there r ppl who dnt like to grow and won’t allow ppl to do so too. Thankfully, there r some who hv some common sense, ignore such kinds and move on π
So, we r indeed progressing that way π
Avial! yummy!!
everywhere its food only today!
LOL! Over load of food π
The whole same gothra thing is rubbish! I agree with your views – let people be. why bother them? why should anyone live according to someone else’s wishes?!!
This is something I don’ understand – why should people expect others to live by their standards.
And… the pic is lovely! π
It hasn’t been too hot in Bangalore thankfully!
Bangalore is much better, isn’t it? Much cooler than other parts – thankfully π
yea… we seem to be having decent weather. its humid though.. but, thats somehow manageable!
I know, Banglore weather is definitely better, in comparison.
Eat chicken pox? LOL π Kids say the cutest of things π
It was very tough getting her to understand what chicken pox really is π
I miss Amma’s Avial π¦
Me too π¦ But I will home in August! Yay!
And Poohi likes chicken so she likes the pox too haaa haa, that’s so cute… π
She likes chicken in all forms!
And plss parcel some wet weather here too, can’t help it, it’s hot and now that laila’s gone, it’s too hot.. ahaa..
Laila’s gone? Lets swap weathers, what say?
Gothra or no gothra, and arya samaj… when will these ppl learn!! It’s a matter of who heads which committee or organisation when! Now where will all those love birds go, registrations takes a month!!
So true! It all depends on who heads what org.. Poor Lovebirds! They will have to get fake parents and fake villagers, I suppose π
And these news channels, wonder what they want to make us feel, I mean, that the world is going from bad to worse!! Judges too have very little sense and a verdict!!
I know! So sad, isn’t it?
oh well, this isnt an avial post ! It has that picture where you are pushing a small kid into that river and then the whole text about gotra marriages ! π π π
π So sorry – did you land here looking for avial ?
Guys it’s not a dictatorship or talibanisation… it’s just a point of view..people oppose marriages within a same gotra because of scientific reasons….
People having a point of view is perfectly fine. I just have an issue with forcing it on others.
Off course one is free to marry who so ever he/she feels like but we cannot rule out that marriage into the same gotra leads to genetic problems later.
‘Off course one is free to marry who so ever he/she feels like but we cannot rule out that marriage into the same gotra leads to genetic problems later.’ – They are not, that is the issue. With Khap panchayats employing their own brand of justice, couples and their families are being persecuted, which is the problem.
I don’t think anybody has an issue in people believing and following what they believe. Imposing their views on others, is not acceptable, is it?
Gotra has a semblance of science in it; its aim is to avoid marriages within a given lineage so as to prevent in-breeding that has the potential to stunt genetic variety in the offspring, thus making him/her susceptible to a host of deformities, disorders, deficiencies and diseases……….
Nobody is questioning the concept behind it, but I don’t understand why force it on those who do not want to follow it? And in some cases, it is beyond gotras, it is across villages too, so in a lot of ways it is hardly justifiable.
wht an avial.. m still wondering ya…
its always dangerous to have half baked information.. u need to be reading more on the issue dear…
we all know the media very well.. their tactics for maximum TRPs and readerships.. they can go to any levels to make spicy news.. i think Tehelka is one of the names in news world where i can still believe the content where he clearly has stated β βIt is for two adults to decide if they wish to marry and live together in the institution of marriageβ rest is here- http://www.tehelka.com/story_main44.asp?filename=Ne220510incoldblood.asp
happy reading!
