Happy Memories are made of these…

I know I have no business writing a post, when I have not answered the comments to the previous one(s) and have not even reached half way on my packing, but some moments need to be recorded, don’t they? It is not everyday that one’s only child participates in her very first public appearance, after all!

Yesterday was Poohi’s Christmas concert. She had been away from school for the last 2 weeks and I was a bit worried if her part would be taken off or given to another child since she went missing. Thankfully, it was not. Each class puts together a nativity concert and every child had a line to say or a song to sing. I was amazed at the wonderful way it was all put together. Getting all the little 3/4 year olds to say their lines in perfect coordination and sing and clap where-ever required. Even the set was gorgeous! The amount of effort the staff had put in getting all this together was evident. As the play progressed, I was all overcome and teary-eyed and feeling a wee bit foolish at the rush of emotions when I saw another dad, wiping away a tear from his eye. I was not the only parent feeling all emotional at the sight of her 3.5 year old in the play.

If that was not enough, after the play, they played a little compilation of photographs taken at the nursery of the children during various activities. It was so well put together, with lovely songs in the back ground, so very touching. The teachers love and dedication was so visible in the way they had put it all together. I think there was not a single dry-eyed parent in that room at the end of it.

For the children, the fact that their parents were there watching them perform, I think, was great. Each little one’s excitement at seeing his mum/dad in the audience was so sweet. It brought back memories of my own childhood in so many ways. It also made me thankful that I was able to experience all these milestones with her.

The enthusiasm, love and concern, the staff showed to each child made me so very grateful that Poohi was lucky enough to have such lovely, considerate and caring teachers. After parents, it is after all, the teachers who play a huge part in the lives of little children. A teacher could single-handedly make or break a child. I just pray that she continues to get such lovely teachers all her student life.

  1. nice to read about the experience smitha..yesterday saritha wrote about varunavi’s school function and today u wrote about the Christmas celbrations.. All the moms around having a wonderful time with their kids’ performance..

I know 🙂 We moms are probably enjoying it far more than the kids 🙂

  2. That is really sweet Smitha. It must have been such an experience to watch you little poohi on stage.

it was, Lakshmi! It sure was! I mean – I never thought I would be that moved.

This year I missed S’s christmas breakfast and the performance as it was yesterday 😦 But will make up this weekend as she is singing carols at our Indian Association christmas celebration. We have got reindeer antlers and glowing red nose for Rudolf:)

Am sure you will have a good time this weekend 🙂 Reindeer antler! A and S must love it 🙂 Here the Christmas tree is all up – but we are going on holiday over the weekend so Christmas will be in hotels this time.

  3. “After parents, it is after all, the teachers who play a huge part in the lives of little children.” So true. we used to have a school diary and the first written on it was School is your second home. I hope too that she always gets wonderful teachers.

Reema, as someone in the teaching profession – you must know the truth of that 🙂 School is certainly our second home – and it can be a cherished place or a hated place. I will just hope that it will always be a cherished place for Poohi – just as it was for me.

  4. No snaps or videos? Would love to see the performance !

This post reminded me of all my singing sessions in school functions ! Sigh !!!! Why on earth did I grow up ???

‘Sigh !!!! Why on earth did I grow up ???’ – Did you really? Oh I forgot – you are getting married – so you must have grown up 😉

  5. We think that the kids are just in KG classes, why to give them importance. But this is the stage when their atmosphere helps them to grow up. As you said, the teachers play a great part in the children’s lives. For the children also the teachers become their own god like person. For my children whatever their teacher said was god’s words!

You are so right – ‘But this is the stage when their atmosphere helps them to grow up.’ I think she really enjoys her time there because of the way the teachers interact with the kids.

I am very happy to know that you are enjoying your daughter’s budding years and giving her full attention. This is very important. Writing posts of all the important events in Poohi’s and your life together is great. You can re-read them after 20 years and enjoy!

That is what I am hoping for – I did not keep any record for Poohi’s first three years and really regret it:(

“HUGS” to Poohi and her mother too!

Thank you so much Sandhya! Hugs back from both of us! Your words always make me feel so good!

  6. Teachers are very important in a child’s life…I too hope that Poohi continues to get good teachers as she progresses through school…

M too has a good teacher and I pray every day that she is lucky enough to get another good one next year…All we can do is hope…

  7. Wow! good to see you’ve had a wonderful time at your angel’s Christmas concert.
I too would like to see the pictures or any snapshots you managed at the concert 😀

I agree on your view that teacher’s play a very important role in a child’s life. When I was a little girl, on many occasions,I used to obey what my teacher said more than what my parents said.

May Little Poohi be blessed with wonderful teachers in the years to come 🙂 Amen.

    Cheers!!

  8. Touchwood Smithus!
Yes, hope Poohi gets such great teachers all thru her student life!

So nice to read your experience and see how much fun both you had!
    Hugs to little Poohi! 🙂

  9. The way its so heartening fpr the parents to see their child on the satge, same way children are also looking in the audience to see their parents, somewtimes they can concentrate only after finding their parents:)

  10. That is so sweet. It is quite an emotional experience, to see your kid up on stage for the very first time, ain’t it ? You are absolutely right about teachers. Kindergarten teachers play such an important role in shaping children’s personalities.

  15. Awwww…what a sweet post. Glad you did it, despite not having reached your half-way-packing-mark LOL! Totally agree with what you have said…teachers can make or break a child’s confidence and happiness. I had awful teachers and I hate the bunch of them from the bottom of my…never mind. But I do hope my child has better luck with teachers!!

  16. Sweet post smitha.

Each little one’s excitement at seeing his mum/dad in the audience was so sweet—- the samething i felt when varu was searching for us in the stands and showing us to her friends. The expression on her face was so sweet.

Hugs to all the teachers who shape the kids and love to all the kids.

Special hugs to poohi kutty inspite of the break she performed.

  19. The pleasure one feels when one sees one’s child on stage for the first time is palpable! In fact everytime it happens it’s exciting. All life is a stage anyway and whenever one child is in the limelight one gets this feeling of excitement!

  20. ” After parents, it is after all, the teachers who play a huge part in the lives of little children. ..”

How rightly said and Poohi is lucky to have it all…

Even I have experienced these moments and they are precious.. thanks for sharing….

Warm wishes for a wonderful and prosperous New Year…

  21. I just pray that she continues to get such lovely teachers all her student life.

  22. I know exactly how you must have felt Smitha. I went through similar emotions when I saw Namnam perform in her national concert. It was a moment of pride for me and R to see our little one stand there on stage confidently and sing.

I’m sure Poohikutty will always be blessed with such loving and caring teachers. God bless her always.

Lots of hugs and ummas to her

  23. Teachers indeed have a huge role in a child’s life from the day they step into a school.
