Has it really been that long?

I can’t believe it. It has been a year since I started blogging.

Of course, it is another story that what blogging then was so different from blogging now. I started simply because I thought I wanted to write.. and shared the url with very few friends -very select friends of mine initially. One of my friends commented on my first post – and I did not even notice it until a month later! I was so clueless and had no idea how magical it would become a few months down the line.

Though I started writing in September, I did no posts in October as we were busy with moving houses(and cities) and it was in November, when I got hooked onto reading other people’s blogs. I was taken aback at the number of blogs and from then on – used to read blogs like mad. IHM and Mr Vinod Sharma were the first people to comment at my blog – apart from my friend who I had ignored so badly 😦 I think it was mind boggling to me – to think that anybody would  care to read what I write..I can’t say how encouraging their comments were, at that point in time.

And then slowly, blogging became much much more than a hobby – it became an obsession 🙂 The blog world is such a amazing place. The number of ideas, the different perspective on various things – has all helped me broaden my outlook. So many things , I have taken for granted, I am now thankful for.. Similarly, in a lot of areas, blogging has opened my eyes to a different reality.

The most fantastic part of this journey of mine, has been the people! Every one of you – I want to say thanks – for reading, for commenting and showering me with so much of love! I don’t have a single post of mine, that I consider special – but your comments – so many of them,  are so so special! I can’t thank you guys enough!

I don’t know how long I will continue blogging, but one thing I am sure is that I will cherish every minute that I have blogged.. It’s been an amazing experience, a learning experience, and an unforgettable, unmatchable one.

Just a quick Onam update , we had a lovely lovely time 🙂 Poohi had the time of her life with the pookkalam and the food – for a change, she ate without a murmur 🙂 , and had the most lovely time with her friend D. We were up till 11:30 in the night – a very very rare occurance in our home.  And we all struggled to wake up today.

Leaving you with the picture of our modest pookkalam, made with all the wild flowers that I picked from the nearby woods at 6 in the morning 🙂

  3. Beautiful pookkalam, Smitha! These things really bring out the artists in us.

🙂 Thank you so much Sandhya! I know for a fact that I don’t have one artistic bone in my body 🙂 But, yes, these things do bring out the best in us.. and it gave Poohi so much of happiness, that it was totally worth it for me 🙂

Now, congratulations on your blog anniversary! You are one of the best blog writers, I admire, Smitha! You are a simple and straightforward person.

Oh thank you so much! I really feel overwhelmed at your words.. It is amazing how writing on a blog, can make so much of difference to our lives..

Like you, when I started blogging, I did not know that I will get involved in it so much. I never knew that I can write something and people are there to read it!

Same here! I was amazed that people thought that my writing was worth reading… I did not even share with all my friends as I was not very comfortable with the way I write.. I had not written since school days..

You are going to continue blogging, forever and we will be there (hopefully!) and wait to read it. I am happy to know you, Smitha!

Touchwood! I hope so too.. That we all continue blogging forever . Am honored to know you.

  4. Congratulations on the blogiversary (if that’s not a term the let me coin it 😉 )! and what a fabulous day to celebrate.

🙂 Yes, blogiversary it is 🙂 Lets all call blog anniversaries that from now on 🙂

I discovered you in January I guess on IHM’s. I still remember the e-mail you sent from the airport. So sweet! Time just flies.

I know, time totally flies! I remember the first post that I read of yours – it was one on books and very nostalgic -took me back to my childhood days 🙂

Wild flowers?! those are prettiest flowers I have seen and that is one of the best ‘athapoo’ too. You know usually people make ‘athapoo’ with the petals so many ‘pookalams’ look similar but since you used full flower it has its own charm. I LOVE it. Gorgeous!

I know. That’s how we used to do it too – using petals.. But I did not have enough flowers, so decided to use whole flowers instead. I could not get any suitable flowers at the supermarket – so went hunting in the woods nearby and got all these.. The white flowers are from my garden.. so made the most of what I had 🙂

So had a blast this Onam? 🙂

Totally 🙂 We did 🙂 How about you? Did you make athapoo too? Did Peanut have a good onam? Sadya, you did mention is on Saturday, isn’t it?

    • Arre we did nothing. I drooled on all your dishes and then made Chicken. Yes! come and kill me for blasphemy. Ha..ha..ha..

Chicken! I want chicken too! Blasphemy? who cares – Pet pooja – sab se important pooja in my books 🙂 I used to do that too – when I was working.. Would be dying to eat something tasty on these festivals and would end up eating chicken – to satisfy myself 🙂

Peanut goes full day school so no time for ‘athapoo’ and all. We will do athapoo this weekend. As for sadya either this weekend or next because since it is long weekend, we are planning to take Peanut to Oregon Museum of Science & Industry and couple of those kind of places. In that case then sadya will be next weekend as then my brother can join us. I have fake Banana leaf from Kerala.

Oh yeah – I can imagine.. I would not have done it – if it had been a nursery day for Poohi – it’s a mad rush then. Is it the labour day weekend, this weekend? Fake banana leaf! That sounds cool! Have to get that next time 🙂

  5. Anniversary Wishes :-). Coincidentally today only did I put a post on “10 reasons why I got into blogging”. What you said is absolutely right… to go on, you need encouragement from the readers. Great that people appreciated your great blog.. Keep blogging for ever 🙂

Will hop over to your blog – have not had a chance to do much blog hopping in the last few days.

    Cheers! 🙂

And thank you for your wishes 🙂

  7. Hearty Congrats Smiths! Time does fly. It seems it was just yesterday when you took a loooooong break from blogging and commenting due to your holiday in India!

That was a looong break, indeed!

It has been a pleasure reading your posts and feeling your joy with Poohi as she grows up in the warmth of your love.

Thank you! I really value your feedback!

  24. Congratulations Smi.

So its been a year huh? Blogs have become such an integral part of our lives that each milestone calls for a celebration.

First time I visited your blog was when you did that 55 word fiction on speeding tickets. I must say, it was really good. You were still on blogger I guess. I then read a few older posts and they instantly touched a chord.

And I can proudly state that since then, I’ve not missed a single post. I may have not commented on some but have read all of them 🙂

OK, now with that out of the way, where’s the cake???

What??? No cake?!!! You expected us to congratulate you on your blog’s first bday and there is no cake?!!!!

    I take my comments back!

  25. hail Smithus!!!!!!!!!!!!! we want the more poohi stories………………. 😛

I still remember the past :P, you were actually one of the few bloggers who actually commented on my blog very long back 😛 hehehehehehehe 😛

and I still remember a post which I had wriiten about Tamil Vs Sankrit……… and then you did another post on that toppic…………………… that was about when, I became a fan of your blog…………………………

    Keep blogging, Hail Smithus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Congratulations Smitha 🙂 I am also amazed that you have been around for an year now!! Time just flew!!! I remember your earliest posts, I had loved your blog, and your views, and how you expressed them! Your blog name once you changed it became amazingly apt, you wrote on a wide variety of things, and always very interestingly!

The Pookkalam looks gorgeous! Happy Onam to you 🙂

  27. Congratulations on completing one year Smitha!
blogging world is indeed a wonderful place..
as you said, reading and interacting with different bloggers helped me have a broader view of things around me..

I first came to your blog from hitchy’s blog. Back then, I was following smita’s blog and used to find 2 smita’s in the comments section at many places. Happened to click ur url and have been visting u ever since.. from about 6 months i guess..
and what keeps me coming back? well i really dont know but ur posts are something i can totally relate to.. it always make me nod in agreement to whatever you write… and poohi tales are the best of all 🙂

    Keep Blogging 🙂
    The pookkalam looks so good…

  28. Congrats for crossing the first year milestone 🙂 :). I remember very well the first post I read of urs. It was about the name mutilation and I instantly felt your pain abt the silk smitha version to ur name…heee silk smitha and sexy…distressed sisters to the soul!!!

🙂 Sakshi or should I say sexy? 🙂 We are soul sisters! With horrible name mutilations like this – how can we not be 🙂

You know what? I should thank you and Deeps for introducing me to a wacky set of comment sensations through your blog. What a collection of riots you have here. I am planning a strategy to put the first comment at each of your place so that I can sleep in peace for sometime. Any ideas how to make Crafty stop dancing???

Yes, we are a mad bunch, aren’t we:) As for posting the first comment, you are right! We should do something about this! We can’t keep coming last in every blog! Just not done! Lets plan offline ok ;)?

  29. hi,

congratulations, please keep it up, u write beautifully, went through few of ur older blogs, just did not comment them as did not make sense to as they were from past. I regualrly check what new stuff u have here.

  30. One year done! Good. Has been great knowing you

*and hope the feeling is mutual. If not, then… i was lying as well 🙂 he he*
