Screams of terror…

.. rock the neighbourhood. in periodic intervals and then stop just as soon as they stop.

That is Poohi being shampooed. For some weird reason, for child who loves water, loves to spend hours in the bathtub, screams blue murder the moment she sees the shampoo bottle. Before you think that the shampoo must hurt her eyes , I use the ‘No more tears’Β  range. But to no avail. She still screams and sometimes has a pre-condition to bathing – ‘No shampoo, ok?’

I have tried every trick possible to get her to wash her hair in peace, but no such luck. Scream, she has to. It seriously worries me, that one day neighbours might just set child services on me for torturing my daughter. Although, apparently, she is not the only one. One of my friend’s 6 yr old daughter ran out into the street to avoid washing her hair. And my hairdresser(the real one, not my daughter) told me that her 10 year old still tries to wriggle out of it πŸ™‚ So do you guys have any hairy tales?

————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Daughter has recently found the cure to all ills.

She goes up to her Daddy and says, ‘Daddy, my tummy’s hurting’.

Daddy, ‘Why, what happened sweetheart ?’

Poohi, climbing into his lap, to improve the cuteness factor, ‘Can I watch some TV to get better!’

———————————————————————————————————————————————–

These days she thinks that she is her Dad’s mom and is entitled to be ‘strict’ with him. One day, he was rummaging around the kitchen looking for something, while Daughter and I were upstairs trying to get her to sleep. Out she jumps of the bed, races down and says ,’Daddy, no making noise in Amma’s Kitchen. If you make more noise, you have to sit in the naughty chair, ok?’

————————————————————————————————————————————————

It never amazes me to see how much children pick up from what happens around them. These days she is always pretending to be a grown up looking after children. She calls out to her toys, the whole time, ‘Children, Listen!’, Children, you have to listen to me! ‘. All the effect of the nursery πŸ™‚

Pixie and Kanagu have bestowed on me a bunch of awards πŸ™‚ Thank you so much for them. Too lazy to put them up here. Will update my awards page soon.

I had an internal deadline to do a post only AFTER I respond to all the comments in the previous posts and read all your posts – I have a huge back log. But that ain’t happening, what with my laptop not co-operating either. So today, when I finally got my laptop, back in shape, well, almost in shape, I had to do a post.

  1. Hey what happening yaar why comments are not getting published,it had happened twice on crafty’s blog, sob sob….

No idea, Saritha – all five comments of yours went into spam 😦

  2. Btw, on all posts today, me commenting without reading….not to mind Smi.

    OK?

Not minding at all πŸ™‚ I think I have to start doing that – if I want to mark all my unread posts as read πŸ™‚

  3. I am not commenting as all my comments are not getting published,wp is playing with me

Please don’t stop commenting – I promise I will approve them as soon as I come online πŸ™‚

  4. LOL. Why don’t you tell her that if she doesn’t shampoo, you’ll be forced to shave off her head?

I have tried all that – she is petrified of bugs and all flying insects – so have tried scaring her that insects will start growing on her hair – no use 😦

And I send you a pic of mine when I got my head shaved last month. Seeing that, she’ll want to use shampoo 3 times daily!!!!!

    Now that might help πŸ™‚
    πŸ˜€

  5. heheh so u r having wonderful time with poohi πŸ™‚ ……itz good to be with kids always(i wrote abt the same in last week πŸ™‚ )

  6. Lol smitha same here, pinkuda just hates to take head bath.So what i do is first i will pretend there is no head bath for her, once her bath is over then i put water on her and head and tell her that i forgot and i have to put shampoo on ur hair, and she cries so much,if i tell her before, she won’t come to the washroom.

Same here.. I have to catch her unawares to shampoo her hair πŸ™‚ Even then the screams are too much 😦

Cure for stomach ache is watching tv,so sweet
She did not have any stomach ache- all pretense, to get sympathy πŸ™‚

Amma’s kitchen– why kids say so yaar, even my kids think kitchen in my property and other rooms are there’s and dad’s property

Oh yes! Kitchen is mine. TV is hers and Daddy’s πŸ™‚
    Congrats on the awards πŸ™‚

    Thank you Saritha πŸ™‚

  7. this is tooo cute πŸ˜€ poohi’s a darling!!

if its any consolation, i simply detested getting shampoo on my hair as a kid. i was terrified of it. but my problem was that it wud get in my eyes and hurt… in those days there werent many varieties for kiddie shampoos. and yes, otherwise i love splashing around in water in the bathtub, swimming pool and whatever else…

Just like Poohi πŸ™‚ She can play in the water even when it has gone totally cold! Weird kid !

i think one reason i remember is that when the soap suds were washed away it used to give a suffocating feeling somehow when all the water washed over my face. do u bend her head over to wash it or do u just pour the water on her head while making her stand straight? it MAY make a difference…

Thats what I do! But she still screams! She was much better when she was little.
as for all the other anecdotes u said…. its her way of learning to live in the world. and what best by imitating adults? πŸ™‚

i love the sentence with which u started the post πŸ˜†

    You do πŸ™‚ Thanks πŸ™‚

and poohi is too cute … whether she is trying improve the cuteness factor trying to be her father’s mother.
P.S.: as a daughter, i do the latter all the time πŸ˜› even today! i keep telling him if i m not strict with him, no one else will…. as everyone else including his wife will spoil him! πŸ˜€

There is very little chance of this wife spoiling her husband πŸ™‚ And now with daughter joining in too – no chance at all πŸ™‚

  8. LOL @ “One of my friend’s 6 yr old daughter ran out into the street to avoid washing her hair.”
You know,Smitha,Namnam too is just like Poohi. She is a total water baby and she loves to have bath so long as I dont wash her hair. The minute she sees me taking the shampoo bottle out the rack, she screams at the highest octave!Phew! And I use the ‘no more tears’ shampoo too.So what is it with these girls??

I know! These two are so similar! I wish we lived close by – am sure they would have had a ball playing together and as they grow up – complaining about their mothers πŸ™‚

Maybe they find it irritating when we pour water over their head and it flows down into their eyes.Just try asking Poohi to look up while you stand behind her and pour water and let it flow from her scalp to the nape. That way it wont roll over her face(hope I didnt confuse u,did I?).Its what I’ve been doing for Namnam lately and she has somehow taken to it kindly..for now at least πŸ™‚

Paranja kekende! No you did not confuse me – I try doing that too – but she will not co-operate :(Once she sees the bottle – she refuses to listen to reason! She just goes crazy!

  9. BTW,I need that pic of the naughty chair!!in dire need of one in my household too πŸ˜€

Just use any chair πŸ™‚ And tell her that it is her ‘naughty chair’ and that if she is naughty – she will have to sit there for 2 mins and think about what she did πŸ™‚ Works wonderfully with Poohi πŸ™‚

  10. Just fill that bath tub with shampoo and ask her to swim in that. 1 stone 2 manga- bath plus shampoo and no fear of being arrested by authorities.

About kids being grown ups, I think I made my dad my student and failed him (like 0 on 10) on a maths test. Whatte satisfaction that was !!

Naughty chair..i like that one. Must get a bigger version for ahem..someone…

  11. hehehe kids have such a grasping power I tell you!!! The worst thing when you want them to learn something they won’t and if you don’t want them to pick up something then they do it most quickly!!!

I guess even we must have given nightmares to our parents πŸ˜€

    ANyways *hugs* to Poohie πŸ™‚

  12. You are lucky she has only shampoo phobia. I know someone – dare not identify him – who had serious hydrophobia…and not due to rabies. It was almost impossible to get him to bathe. When he did get in, well, he just wasted the water away, and dabbed a bit on himself so that when he emerged, it appeared as if he had had a bath! It took many years for the back of his neck to get back the original colour of his skin!

  13. So after the sofa, you decided to remove the stains from Poohi, huh ? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

ha ha ! That I did not think of πŸ™‚ What am I a professional stain remover πŸ™‚

I used to have an issue going to the barber !! Those scissors !! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Ya? Poohi loves getting her hair cut – she sits like an angelic child – thank god for that!

I guess its time you started a blog on Poohis adventures !! That will make a good read ! or you could open a page here !!

May be I should – just can’t imagine managing 2 blogs! At the very least I will be disowned by my family πŸ™‚

and yes, I miss your presence in my blog ! Theres a huge war going on over there !!! πŸ˜€

I was there while you commented here πŸ™‚

  14. Poohi’s antics…best read, Smitha! We can always enjoy, watching their mind work. We can never guess.

    I know!

    So TV cures everything…nice.

TV is strictly rationed, so she tries everything to try and get to watch TV πŸ™‚
    ‘nauty chair’….the best.

My niece was doing that…just bathing, means she was very happy. Head bath….rona dhona shuru…! She did this till she was around, 10, I think.

Goodness! 7 more years of screams! I am sure to go deaf πŸ™‚

You will remember all these things, in later years and laugh, Smitha!
I know πŸ™‚ That is the reason I write these down πŸ™‚

  15. Poohi and Namnam sounds like angels to me. My son has the same problem, he loves the water and will play in the tub for ages but shampoo time is WWF time at my place. Yup I get into the tub and both of us try to force down each other on to the floor. If I manage to get his hair shampooed then he makes it sure half the shampoo bottle is all over me :(. Nothing seems to work with the guy. I even told him that if he doesn’t shampoo he will get big curly hairs like me, to which he replied – I will get them chopped by the cute blonde aunty!

    LOL@WWF time πŸ™‚

‘If I manage to get his hair shampooed then he makes it sure half the shampoo bottle is all over me ‘- That sounds similar – I am soaking wet at the end of a shampooing session and so is the bathroom floor 😦

‘ I will get them chopped by the cute blonde aunty!’ – He has all his fundas right πŸ™‚ How old is he ?

    • “If I manage to get his hair shampooed then he makes it sure half the shampoo bottle is all over me”-it must be quite a sight, nahi Saksh πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

      • Now Deeps you know what I do in the shower right? πŸ˜‰ one more shower secret out!

So many shower secrets out πŸ™‚ Now I will have even more weirdos landing here with their searches πŸ™‚

    • He is gonna be 5 this month and he is already enlightened with all his girl fundas 😦

5 and all his fundas in place πŸ™‚ Nice nice πŸ™‚ Am sure you must be waiting for him to become a teenager with bated breath πŸ˜‰

      • Noooooooooooo before he is a teenager I want t whisk him back to India coz SJ has predicted he is gonna get me a blonde Bahu…nahiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.

          • Aioo I know I am selfish but I want a bahu who will make me pakodas and chai instead of opening a bottle of wine for me with some pasta…yuck!! call me old fashioned, selfish, mean mom in law…sobs

You ‘old fashioned, selfish, mean mom in law’ πŸ™‚ You know, you could get such a daughter-in-law in India too, these days πŸ˜‰

            • U know what? once I told my husband I wish I could get a mallu daughter in law so that she can cook us south Indian food (am pretty bad at making dosa for your info). My husband said na I cannot tolerate one more woman who can count 100 uses for a coconut tree…and my son says he doesn’t want someone with black curly hair! wonder why I am still here with these two ungrateful mallu hating guys!

              • You can’t make dosas too πŸ™‚ I can make them – but my batter gets spoilt – yes – spoilt. I mean nobody I know has this problem – mine starts stinking instead of getting fermented 😦 Can’t tell you how heart broken I get each time I throw huge bowls of batter 😦 sob sob !

Can’t even hope for a mallu DIL 😦 Hopefully I will get a Mallu SIL who cooks πŸ™‚ Hubby will love that too – he is pretty fed up with this Mallu who can’t even make dosas πŸ™‚ And you know what – he is a non mallu and he liked sadhya – when I couldn’t stand it πŸ™‚ Now I miss it too 😦

                • Et tu married a non mallu?? what happened to our brains at that time? I think it’s the heart…shessh!!

I know πŸ™‚ Its definitely the heart πŸ™‚

  16. Yes I am always amazed at the way kids pick up little things from their environment … love these little bits you share about Poohi πŸ™‚ You are going to enjoy reading these in later years, so will Poohi πŸ™‚

I hope so πŸ™‚ I write them down, just so that we don’t forget all this. When I read Mommy bloggers – I always wish I had one too – she is too old to have one now – and I am too lazy πŸ™‚

My daughter also used to request to be allowed to watch TV to be ‘distracted from’ her sudden aches and sudden pains and fever etc πŸ™‚

    πŸ™‚ These girls!

I was going to advise ‘No more tears’, but you have already tried that… How about letting her sit on a chair and washing her hair without letting her face (or shoulders etc) get wet? I did this once when my daughter was not well.

Will try that out – that might help, actually πŸ™‚

  17. Cute cute cute… what else can I say Smitha… she is really really sweet… πŸ™‚ from asking permission to watch tv… threatening her dad to make sit on naughty chair… πŸ™‚ great πŸ™‚

Sometimes it is not so cute – esp when she screams her lungs out πŸ™‚

  18. LoL! Poohi sounds just like me. πŸ‘Ώ I use to hate washing my hair (still do πŸ˜‰ ) and mum & dad dad tried every trick in the book to get me to do it. Never work though.

πŸ™‚ So you tortured your parents too πŸ™‚

And don’t worry Smitha, Poohi will grow out of it.
BUT in the mean time, have fun. πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

    I certainly hope so πŸ™‚

And BTW no more tears hurts/stings your eyes too. 😦

    Really? No wonder!

  19. Be careful, Poohi will come up with extremely innovative excuses when she is a teen…But seriously, she is a cutie pie…Don’t u sometimes wish she doesn’t grow up and lose her cuteness factor?

Goodness! Bones, you are scaring me πŸ™‚

I always wish that! Even when we look at pics/videos from last year , we feel that change, you know. She felt so much more like a baby – just a year back.. Now she feels much more grown up 😦 She is growing up too fast for my liking 😦

  20. hahaha πŸ˜› these poohi stories are the best πŸ˜›

may I suggest that you try Don sols hair wash solution next time πŸ˜› poohi might not object πŸ˜› ROFL πŸ˜›

Yeah sure πŸ™‚ She loves eggs and might end up eating it and might also develop a taste for beer πŸ˜‰ Am sure it will work πŸ™‚

    hahahahahahahaha

  21. “β€˜Can I watch some TV to get better!’” Indeed. How cute! πŸ™‚

My second son used to create such a scene for haircuts! Neighbors used to rush out of their houses to see what exactly his parents were doing to the poor child to make him scream so much only to find a red faced chubby kid tears streaming down his face mixed with all those bits of hair being held securely by Mom and Dad while the barber tried taking pot shots at his hair with scissors. It was quite an entertainment show for them for quite a long time! πŸ™‚

Goodness:) So it was proper entertainment for them πŸ™‚ Thankfully, haircuts is something she loves – thank god for that πŸ™‚

  22. That cutie pie, Poohi. So sweet.

Smi, even ‘No-tears’ doesn’t help? I never had a problem with Peanut so really don’t know. I used ‘No-tears’ for long and now Loreal’s kid’s shampoo. She just keeps her eyes closed till it washes off. Hmm..how about you show her some video of a tiny kid getting bath? Or a book? Often kids get influenced seeing that like how some love those potty training flush sounds in books. πŸ˜†

She refuses to close her eyes! And then screams her lungs out! Have tried all that. Have shown her kids having a wonderful time shampooing her hair, snaps of her friends in the bathtub with their hair full of shampoo – no use! She still screams!

They play tricks with their Dads. Poohi is smart. She knows being a girl she can get her way with Daddy dear. πŸ˜€

πŸ™‚ She tries – but does not get away πŸ™‚ Daddy loves his TV – does not relinquish it so easily πŸ™‚

Naughty chair! I remember you mentioning that before too. Wait till she asks her teacher to sit on a naughty chair. How is she doing at nursery?

Oh god! Did not even think of that πŸ™‚ She is having a ball of a time! She goes for just 3 days now and the 2 days that she doesn’t – she is absolutely desolate! She loves it there πŸ™‚

    Congratulations on the awards! πŸ™‚

    Thank u thank u

  23. Poohi tales are the most interesting!
shampoo tales..i have no idea what to do to stop little poohi cry! may be Solilo’s advice will help..
LOL at she trying to be her dad’s parent.. i used to do it a lot when i was young πŸ˜€
vimmu’s advice is good..start a page/blog for poohi.. we would love to read them πŸ™‚
Hope to see you soon at my blog πŸ™‚

    You too, Mystery πŸ™‚

Will think of creating a separate page.. lets see..Will hop over right now – I did read your latest post – but could not comment – got busy with something – will hop over right now

  24. Well I also hate it when I hate to shampoo my hair…such tiring process it is… my neck and hands, both would be hurting at the end of it… but i love getting it done at saloon… feels so good and pampered πŸ˜‰
May be you should take her to a kid’s saloon for head bath once and see if she enjoys being there like most of the girls do πŸ˜›

You don’t like shampoos- I love them πŸ™‚ And love them even more at the saloon πŸ™‚ That is pure bliss!

Yeah – she might love it there and still scream the roof down at home πŸ™‚

  25. Alle!!! Poohi no like shampoo? Me never liked concept of bath only! My mom….no wonder she never thought of another kid! πŸ˜›

Me neither! I love washing my hair – refreshes me πŸ™‚ ‘My mom….no wonder she never thought of another kid! :P’ – ROFL!!!

Watching TV to relieve ills is sooper idea! Poohi is smartie cutie!
    Muahs!!!!!

smartie cutie? scares me! And I tried so hard for her NOT to like TV πŸ™‚

LOL! So has she sent daddy to naughty chair?
Btw…naughty chair??? That is just too adorable!!!!!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
Like dennis the menace sitting looking at the wall, with his teddy bear and ruff the doggie next to him! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Yes, something like that. she is not allowed her toys though – she is supposed to sit there and think about what she did πŸ™‚

OMG!!!! She says that to her toys????
OMG OMG OMG! SHE IS CUTENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sigh…..i cud just take a flight and come to give poohi a hug! My cutie she is! I also wanna be in her class!!! She might make me monitor!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Oh she will πŸ™‚ These days all her toys are ‘children’ πŸ™‚

Yeah, kids really pick up stuff! I told u of my fiasco? I had said it at solilo’s blog…
I was always asked by mom just for fun, β€œchaddi pehena?”
And I reproduced that question to my dad’s boss when he visited home for lunch!
    My mom nearly fainted! πŸ˜›
Omigod!!!! I can imagine your mom’s reaction! ROFL!!! Have to tell hubby this πŸ™‚

SUPER TIGHT HUGS for my cutie Poohi! On screen ummas to her from me!!!
She passes them back to you via screen, of course πŸ™‚

  26. LOL!!
Smithus, whya re you torturing darling Poohi like this huh?!

very bad… go and sit in the naughty chair and think about what you have done to my darlin’ Poohi! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
oh dear – now me too 😦 sob sob! Pixie, you are supposed to be on my side!

  27. Smitha I left a comment just now.
didnt you get it? I cant see it

Can’t see any other comment before this, Indyeah.. Looks like it disappeared 😦 Not in the spam or pending folders 😦

  28. LOL! And to think of all the things I was imagining happened in your neighbourhood! Poor little Poohi. have you tried the special mugs available at John Lewis, so that the water does not fall onto the face? That might help! Or you could try pouring the shampoo out of a bottle shaped like Dora or Barbie or something? Good luck πŸ™‚

Haven’t tried that mug from John Lewis! Thanks for the tip – will definitely give it a shot πŸ™‚

  29. Actually my daughters loved the shampoo sessions-we whipped up lots of lather, played “snowman” with it, made a lot of mess, managing to clean the hair without making it a central issue. Hope it works for you πŸ™‚

Oh that sounds fun! But my daughter hates shampoo anywhere near her head 😦 She will happily make snowmen everywhere else:)

And Yeah. TV cures a lot of aches and pains at my home too

Being strict with Dad is quite useful-does she manage to get him to finish his homework and clean up too?

No no not yet πŸ™‚ She has not reached the homework but yet πŸ™‚

  30. Please stop torturing the kid !!

I have simple rules at home.. if you get angry on the kid you lost your patience…

if you expect him to behave… you are wrong..

if you want him to sit in one place… that is totally unrealistic expectation… !!

if you want him to not watch tv sitting on his head… your being too idealistic… really !! sheesh…

My son is a real dada now a days with everyone else… and when anyone scolds him he tells them… Adha has said na .. to not get angry and talk with love… !! lol.. !!

    * I guess i have to be a lil strict with him now but i just cant.

and will you please turn the preview thing off on the reply button… i cant reply to other comments from mobile.. !! pls

  31. no more tears also work when the eyes are closed I have actually tried it myself, ask her if she will do that but I dont think 😦
That is the problem. She refuses to close her eyes 😦

i have the same story here the guy who is not ready to come out of the bathroom runs at a speed of 100 when its shampoo day, have u tried a shampoo shield that is the only thing that worked with a little bit…

You know, she was much better – just a year back. Its only as she has grown older that all these tantrums have started 😦 I used to use the shield – now that just gives her advance warning of an imminent shampoo;)

ROFL watch TV for tummy hurt now thats a first
Yeah – TV cures everything πŸ™‚

and how do u make them obey the nuaghty chair or nuaghty corner, mine he laughs crazily everytime I try to tell him that sigh

Oh dear πŸ™‚ I started after she turned 2. And would tell her that she has been very naughty and would not let her get off the chair – until 2 mins passes. It worked for her.. luckily πŸ™‚

and congrats for those awards πŸ™‚

    Thank you πŸ™‚
