Election Results!

Just wanted to record how delighted I am at the results! After all the dire predictions of a split verdict and the possibility of cobbled-together, opportunistic,ย coalitions – the decisive victory for the UPA is a delight to see!!!

It is a delight to just know that all that heavy bargaining that was predicted is not going to happen.. and that all the predictions and exit polls are actually far from what the Indian voter wants.. Is this an indication of the growing maturity of the Indian voter? I, sure hope so!

  1. first !

Yes, so whats new ๐Ÿ˜‰ You should try coming last now ๐Ÿ™‚ You are the ‘king’ of first comments now ๐Ÿ˜‰ Or should I have said ‘god’ ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! You see him claiming first position on everyones blog. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I guess he has no work to do. ๐Ÿ˜›

We should have a new category of awards – First Commentator or something ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. i guess i didnt want NDA to win.. nor the third front… so I guess I should be happy as well…

although the best thing to happen is this might be a govt without the left…

thank god atleast it will be a stable govt… otherwise

yeh sab chor hai… but with stability we will progress nevertheless… !

Yes, Agree with everything you’ve said.. Yeh sab chor hai! but yes, with stability, atleast the amount of development that could take place is much more than with a coalition.. With a shoddy, opportunistic coalitions – all that happens is keeping the coalition partners happy..

  3. I share the sentiment ๐Ÿ™‚ I am so proud of the surprises we manage to spring!! 2004 had come as a delightful surprise, and now again we have a PM who has even been called weak and unmanly!! Also delighted that Shashi Thaoor won ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, absolutely!!! It is great! And fantastic that Shashi Tharoor won – I was quite sure of his victory.. And delighted that people like Paswan have lost.. But it is great and better than 2004 – because it is more decisive..It will be much better for the nation this way..

  4. I’m glad that the NDA has lost and the Left has had a reality check…Yes, we should all be happy that we will have a stable government – man, the Indian voters are full of surprises…

Yes Bones, The Indian voters are full of surprise – happy surprise this time round ๐Ÿ™‚ A stable govt is the best possible verdict.. I do hope that the NDA introspects and brings about positive changes.. as for the left – I do hope they fade away into oblivion..

  5. You know that I’m not a fan of the Congress.:)

But yes, I’m glad it will be a stable government with a clear mandate. Thankfully, no horsetrading!

Manju, I am no great fan of the congress either..I really feel that they are all the same… But I am happy with the fact that it is not a fractured verdict… with every Tom,Dick and Harry trying to make political gains… Let’s hope that they do some good…

  6. Well am not happy with the verdict. Staunchly Anti- Congress I am.

As far as thing of clear majority or maturity of Indian voters is concerned, I do not agree with you.

It is UPA which has the major chunk of votes not INC or BJP or any other national level party. UPA comprises of quite a many regional parties so bargaining will still happen.

Congress at its own has only 116 (leading in 85) i.e. 201 seats which is quite far away from 274. They are still at the mercy of their allies.

But yes am very happy that RJD & Left have been put in their place, finally.
I hope for the day when we have a 2-3 party system and all regional parties merge into some or the other national party. The day that happens then only we will have any kind of clear verdict.

Smita, I am no big fan of Congress either.. All the parties are practically the same.. Yes, you are right that it is a verdict for UPA not Congress alone.. Yes, there will be bargaining – but from the look of it, Congress might not need give in to all demands – given the number of parties that are coming forward to offer support..So in that sense, it will be an easier coalition.. than one full of partners ready to pull out support.. Atleast the govt will be able to focus on doing useful work rather than appeasing their partners..

I certainly hope that we get to a stage with 2 or 3 major parties.. That would be best!

  7. The Indian voter needs to be saluted. He has given a decisive verdict. He has badly mauled the “secular” pretenders of the Third and Fourth Front who wanted to establish a non-BJP, non-Congress govt. The two national parties have together emerged stronger. Even the defeated BJP has almost managed to save its previous tally of 138 seats, getting 121.

The real news of this election is the decimation of the arrogant Left that had tormented Dr Manmohan, the Singh who is now people’s king.

I totally agree! I do hope that this means it is a move towards a 2 party system and that BJP introspects and figures out where it went wrong.. I think they need young, dynamic leaders and that Narendra Modi may not be that leader.

  8. I am really unhappy with the results Smitha.. I am an anti-nepotism and secular. But in both the center state DMK and Congress has won.. ๐Ÿ˜ก
but only relief is that best of the worse has been selected.. and the opportunistic parties are shown the door.. thats a good sign ๐Ÿ™‚

I am not a big Congress supporter either – but I am happy that it will be a stable govt not a cobbled together alliance.. So in that sense, it is a good verdict.. Lets hope that the UPA performs this time, especially given the fact that they are now not going to be held ransom by partners..

  9. I am very very happy, Smitha. Everyone I talked to, expressed their happiness. And now no one can blackmail the Central Government. Some good reforms might happen.

Yes, totally agree! Hopefully now, the UPA wil be able to perform at optimal levels.. I am so happy that the Left is out..

At last we, Indian voters, have given a correct decision.

I am happy that Tharoor won, Vaiko lost, Mani Iyer lost, PMK lost all the 4 seats (!!), Paswan lost. Unhappy because Azhagiri won.

I was delighted that Mani Shankar Iyer lost – that man gets on my nerves! and so does Paswan… I do hope that this heralds the entry of better candidates..

So, good things are going to happen for us…nalla kaalam varuthu, nalla kaalam varuthu….! (Good times are coming…)…gudu gudu gudu gudu!!

Absolutely! After a long time, an election result that makes us all happy ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I am happy with the All India results, but in Karnataka – not so happy….
I really thought our people would have kept in mind all that happened in the past few months while voting…
Now, all we can hope is for some moderation.. maybe.
But, Kerala – Shashi Tharoor winning made mehappy ๐Ÿ™‚

For Karnataka – well, I am not sure how much it will impact – as these were not the assembly elections. And people do vote differently in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections…

Yes, Shashi Tharoor winning is really good.. I do hope that he lives up to expectations..

  11. I am happy the LJP,RJD and the Left got a licking . And the BJP must introspect , as you said , and try and emerge as an actual “Bhartiya Janta’s” party , for it will be in the best interests of the nation to have two national parties .

Me too- delighted that ‘the LJP,RJD and the Left got a licking ‘. And yes, the BJP has to introspect if it intends to better its performance the next elections.. I think it needs to act as a sensible opposition, providing constructive criticism.. It will be great to have 2 national parties.. Lets hope that happens..

  12. I too am happy its a decisive verdict…at least we wont have any coalition partners pulling away in all directions, and the government will be free to do its thing.

    Yes, Totally agree..

  13. Glad there is more stability in the choice, which can only do good to the country! And that is finally what matters over personal choices isnt it?

‘And that is finally what matters over personal choices isnt it?’ – Exactly my sentiments! I feel delighted at the result – precisely because of this.. Lets just hope that they are able to perform to expectation..

  14. More stability !more stable govt ..more tough decisions ,more clear thoughts!thats the only thing thats made me go yippee today! ๐Ÿ˜€
    here’s to India!

Absolutely! A stable govt that will be able to concentrate on governance as opposed to a govt busy keeping its partners happy.. Lets hope that they deliver!

  15. Agree with you – a decisive victory has everyone delighted. Jai ho!!

Yes, I think the decisive victory was even better because none of us expected it:) But yes, this is what the country needed especially in the current times..

  16. Like Smita, i am also anti-congress. At the same time i do not like BJP as it always brings religion into politics.
But i am happy that at least this time we have a single party which has the majority and it doesn’t result in a coalition govt. which is nothing but chaos.. Hope this is for the better and India prospers.

Mystery, I am no congress supporter myself.. My reason for the delight is simply that it is not a hung parliament and a badly cobbled together coalition.. As for the parties – I think all of them are equally bad.. one way or the other.. The important thing is for Congress to use this opportunity wisely and do something good, rather than fritter it away.. Lets see what they do..

  17. It is good that I did not have to vote for any of them since from a distant all look the same.. but there is stability and if the Congress has the will to deliver it can. It no longer need to blame the Left or any others for their failures. Let the Congress be grateful to the voters and fulfill what they have promised.

  18. yeah true…in the current scenario(of recession and all) a hung parliament will do more harm than gud…….yes we need a stable government to take decisions in sensible\important factors and all and thank god , we got one.Probably BJP and communist will learn a lesson from this, for there anti people and extreme communal\religious policies(the main reason why i hate BJP is they divide people by there cast and religion)..

Yes, this election result is a godsend! We certainly needed that! Lets just keep our fingers crossed that the Govt now delivers.

As for the opposition – well, they need to understand where they went wrong.. I think they need to really reach out to the electorate and Hindutva or blocking development is clearly not the way to go.. Let see what they do next..Hopefully this will serve as an eye-opener..

So, what do you think?
